The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2008 was the inaugural season of the popular Twenty20 cricket league, which was launched by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2008. The tournament featured eight teams representing different cities in India, and it took place from April 18 to June 1, 2008.
The eight teams that participated in the tournament were the Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Daredevils, Kings XI Punjab, Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Deccan Chargers.

The tournament had a round-robin format, where each team played the other seven teams once, and the top four teams then progressed to the knockout stage. Rajasthan Royals emerged as the champions of the tournament, defeating Chennai Super Kings in the final by 3 wickets.
Shane Watson of Rajasthan Royals was declared the Player of the Tournament for his all-round performance, while Shaun Marsh of Kings XI Punjab won the Orange Cap for scoring the most runs in the tournament. The Purple Cap for the most wickets was won by Sohail Tanvir of Rajasthan Royals.
The tournament was widely regarded as a huge success and helped to popularize T20 cricket in India and around the world. It paved the way for the formation of other similar leagues in other cricket-playing countries, and has since become an annual fixture in the cricketing calendar.
