Bairstow and Overton script England's comeback

Middle-order batsman Johnny Bairstow and lower-order batsman Jamie Overton batted brilliantly as England made an excellent comeback in the third Test against New Zealand.

England scored 360 runs in their first innings in reply to New Zealand's 329. Bairstow and Overton put on a 241 run stand for 7th wicket after England were 6 down for just 55 runs on the board.

Bairstow completed his 10th hundred in Test career and his second consecutive ton. He scored 162 runs from 157 balls which included 24 fours. Overton made 97 runs with 13 fours and 2 sixes. Stuart Broad made crucial 42 runs down the order.

Trent Boult was the pick of the bowlers for New Zealand as he finished with the figures of 4-104. Southee picked up 3, Neil Wagner picked up 2 while Michael Bracewell bagged a wicket to his name.

Earlier, New Zealand had posted 329 runs in their first innings with Daryll Mitchel scoring a century. Daryl was dismissed for 109 off 228 balls with nine fours and three sixes. Mitchell has scored century in all the three games this series. This is his fourth Test century. Captain Kane Williamson (31), Devon Conway (26), Tom Blundell (55) and Tim Southee (33) were the other contrubutors with the bat for New Zealand.

English spinner Jack Leach picked up 5 wickets. Stuart Broad took 3 wickets while Matthew Potts and Jamie Overton shared a wicket each.
