A 224 run partnersip between Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah guided Bangladesh to a 5 wicket victory over New Zealand. Bangladesh are still alive while New Zealand has been knocked out of the tournament.
Chasing a target of 266, Bangladesh were once struggling at 33-4. Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah added 224 runs for 5th with both batsmen completing their individual centuries. Mahmudullah remained unbeaten on 102 runs off 107 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes while Shakib was bowled by Trent Boult in the 47th over of the innings. Tim Southee went through the top order of Bangladesh as he picked up wickets of Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar and Sabbir Rahman early in the innings. Southee finished with the figures of 45-3 from 9 overs.
Earlier the day, New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first. Bangladesh bowled well to restrict New Zealand to 265/8 from 50 overs. Ross Taylor was the top scorer for New Zealand with 82 balls 63. Skipper Kane WIlliamson completed yet another half century. Almost everyone got starts for New Zealand but no one could go on to make a big one. Mosaddek Hossain was the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh as he finished with the figures of 13-2. Taskin Ahmed picked up 2 wickets while Mustafuzur Rahman and Rubel Hossain shared a wicket each.
Shakib Al Hasan was named Man of the Match for his man winning knock with the bat. Bangladesh willqualify for semifinalsif Australia doesn't come out victorious in the last match of the group match against England. New Zealand on the other hand, are out of the tournament.
