Zimbabwe and Netherlands qualify for T20 World Cup

Zimbabwe and Netherlands have qualified for the upcoming T20 World Cup to be held in Australia in October and November. The home team Zimbabwe and the Netherlands reached the finals from the ICC World Cup Qualifier B and made it to the T20 World Cup.

The Netherlands defeated America by 7 wickets in the semi-finals. Zimbabwe defeated Papua New Guinea by 27 runs to reach the final.

In the first semi-final, the home team Zimbabwe won the toss at Queen Sports Club and batted first, losing 5 wickets in the allotted 20 overs and scored 199 runs. Young batsman Wesley Madhevere scored 42 runs off 29 balls with 5 fours.

Captain Craig Ervine scored 38 off 30 balls with 4 fours and 1 six and Regis Chakabva was dismissed for 30 runs. Milton Shumba scored 29, Sikander Raja and Sean Williams scored 22 runs each. Sese Bau and Charles Amini took 2 wickets each for PNG.

Chasing a target of 200 runs for victory, Papua New Guinea scored 172 runs losing 8 wickets from 20 overs. Tony Ura was dismissed for 66 runs off 35 balls with 4 fours and 5 sixes. At one time, Ura's innings seem to guide Papua New Guinea to victory but eventually PNG fell short of the target by 27 runs. Ura completed his half-century in 22 balls.

After Ura was bowled out in the last ball of the 15th over by Sean Williams, the PNG's chances in the game was finished. Charles Amini 31, Asad Vala 7, Sese Bau 5 and Riley Hekure were dismissed for 17 runs. Zimbabwe's Blessing Muzarabani picked up two wickets.

Meanwhile, chasing a target of 139 runs for victory in the second semi-final, Netherlands completed the chase losing 3 wickets from 19 overs. Bas de Leede sealed his team's place in the World Cup by remaining unbeaten on 91 runs off 67 balls with 9 fours and 3 sixes. Captain Scott Edwards scored unbeaten 26 while Max O'Dowd was out for 16 runs.

Earlier, USA won the toss and was all out for 138 runs from 19.4 overs. Monank Patel was dismissed for 32 runs off 15 balls with 5 fours and 1 six. Steve Taylor was out for 26 and Nisarg Patel for 28 runs.

Bas de Leede and Paul van Meekeren of the Netherlands took 2 wickets each. Netherlands had advanced to the semi-finals by remaining undefeated from Group B.
