Mumbai Indians' star batsman, Suryakumar Yadav, is poised to rejoin the team's ranks in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. It is anticipated that he will make his comeback during the upcoming clash against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Wankhede Stadium on April 7th (Sunday).

The National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru granted clearance for the middle-order stalwart on Wednesday, following a hiatus from cricket lasting over three months. Stringent assessments conducted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and NCA physiotherapists preceded Yadav's approval, ensuring his readiness without compromising on caution, as reported.

"He is now fit. The NCA facilitated several practice sessions for him, and he exhibited promising form. He is cleared to rejoin the Mumbai Indians squad. Our priority was to ensure Surya's complete fitness before his return to MI. He had shown some discomfort during his initial fitness assessment prior to IPL, so we took the time to assess his condition thoroughly," a source from the BCCI stated, as per The Indian Express report.

Suryakumar Yadav's prolonged absence from cricket ensued from a grade II ankle tear sustained during the T20I series in South Africa, sidelining him initially for seven weeks. Subsequently, another setback surfaced, necessitating a hernia operation, further prolonging his absence from competitive cricket.

Undergoing sports hernia surgery in Munich, Germany, on January 17, Yadav's recovery journey has been meticulous, with careful attention to rehabilitation. His return to action is indeed a significant boost for Mumbai Indians, particularly given their lackluster performance in the tournament under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya.

Mumbai Indians have faced a dismal run in IPL 2024, suffering defeat in all three matches played thus far. Since assuming captaincy from Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya has faced criticism and a lack of support from MI supporters, exacerbating the team's woes. MI currently languish at the bottom of the IPL 2024 points table, making Yadav's return even more pivotal in their quest for resurgence.
