Sandip features in Best Young Players List in World Cricket

Young leg spinner from Nepal, Sandip Lamichhane has been included in the list of best young cricketers from the world. Famous English cricket magazine, AllOutCricket has placed Sandip at 30th place in the list.

Sandip was a key man in Nepal’s impressive run to the quarter-finals of the 2016 Under 19 World Cup, taking five wickets, including a hat-trick, against Ireland. He finished the tournament as the second-highest wicket-taker, with a haul of 14 at 17.07.

The teenager also managed to get interest and applause from Michael Clarke, the former Australia captain, when they played together for Kowloon Cantons in Hongkong. Lamichhane also picked up two wickets in the T20 match and this tournament became his turning point indeed.“Sandeep has a lot of talent, there’s no doubt about it,” says Clarke, “but I think he offers a hell of a lot more than that, and that’s why I’ve done whatever I could to try and get him to Sydney.”

His career started from the nets of "Campa Chaur" Chitwan, when former Nepalese head coach Pubudu Dasanayake marked his potential and placed him to the national camp. His performance at the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup took him to the new heights.

His ability to spin the ball compared himself with "ball of the century" of spin king Shane Warne. He became the second-highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets and a best of 5 for 27 against Ireland at the Under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh. Lamichhane was quickly uplifted into the senior team as he played against Namibia in his debut series taking 3 wickets in 2 matches.
