March 16 2014, Nepal had a show in the global cricket arena beating Hongkong on it’s maiden T20 world cup. Nepalese fans rejoiced the moment watching and supporting their heroes live in big screens. Nepal not only won the hearts and minds of new global fans at the World T20, it inspired local cricketers to play more and serve for their country cricket. Each local cricketers have a dream of wearing the national jersey, this requires not only the passion but more dedication and hard work. Similar is the story of a wonder kid; Rohit Poudel.

Rohit, who used to play cricket for fun back then was inspired by the journey of Nepali cricket at the ICC T20 World Cup in Bangladesh. Since then, his passion towards cricket bloomed over and over. He came to Kathmandu from Nawalparasi and started his training at Baluwatar cricket academy. He participated the club tournaments and later started his journey to Delhi for more exposure and trainings. The three months of training at Delhi gave him more confidence and a desire to prove himself better.

He returned back to Nawalparasi and it was time, Talent hunt for ACC U19 Asia Cup 2016 took place throughout the country. He knew it, he had five overs to prove himself on the nets of Bhairahawa camp where he travelled from Nawalparasi. And two days later the national talent hunt ended, he clinched his spot at preliminary 52 mens close camp. Soon, he was listed in 24 men squad and 14 men full squad for the ACC U19 Asia Cup 2016.

Rohit had his U19 debut against hosts Srilanka where Nepal lost the match by small margin of 1 run. The second game against India was crucial for him since Nepal had already lost 6 wickets in just 86 runs at 24.4 overs. It was a match to remember, his destructive inning of 68 runs against India was a talk in the town where he smashed 24 runs (0-6-4-4-6-4) of the final over against Kamlesh Nagarkoti. Nepal could not defend the total of 171 runs against mighty India yet Rohit heroics will ever be remembered.

Rohit was listed in preliminary squad of the national team close camp against UAE but he couldn’t find a spot on the second list. Later, he showed other heroics in the Everest Premier League with finalists side Bhairahawa Gladiators. He scored 96 runs off 6 innings, his destructive innings against Lalitpur Patriots will ever be remembered. His confidence in the entire show clinched his crucial spot in 24 men close camp. The tale of Rohit Kumar Poudel continues as he debuts for senior side in the upcoming ICC World Cricket League Division II in Namibia.
