India has been producing some fine fast bowlers in recent times. Before a decade or so, India didn't had that sort of fast bowling unit which they particulary have now. The recent fast bowlers have been doing pretty good in all 3 formats of the game.

The credit must go to the domestic structure as well as to the franchise based cricket competition. Some of the renowned fast bowlers are Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Md. Siraj and many more. But among all these fast bowlers one name who has been doing really good especially in longer format of the game is Mohammed Shami.

Mohammed Shami over the years

He made his test debut in 2013 against West Indies at his home ground at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. He scalped 9 wickets in that game including a match winning 5-wickets haul in the second innings. Since then there is no looking back for this giant fast bowler.

He started to make significant contributions and with his ability to reverse/contrast swing the old white ball, he became an indispensable asset to the limited overs side, becoming the second fastest Indian to 50 ODI Wickets in the process. He proved his worth in the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup as well by picking up 17 wickets and ending up as India's highest wicket taker in the tournament.

Till date he has 216 wickets in Test matchesat an average of 27.45. His performance in ODI Cricket speaksfor himself. In 82 matches, he has 152 wickets to his name. He has ten 4 wickets-haul in ODI cricket to his name. He is even the fastest Indian bowler to take 100 and 150 wickets in ODI cricket.

Shami's Journey in the Shorter Format

Talking about his performance in shorter format, he was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders in his initial IPL days but got only a handful of opportunities. He was then bought by then Delhi Daredevils for Rs. 4.25 crore in year 2014.

However, he was expensive with the ball and got injured several times. He was leaking runs over 9 runs a over, his 5-year association with Delhi ended as the franchise decided to release him. During the 2019 IPL auctions, Shami was roped in by Kings XI Punjab for Rs. 4.40 crore.

Since, then his IPL stats have improved a lot. But in case of T20I  he has missed several games for his side. He made his debut for Team India in T20I way back in 2014 against Pakistan in World T20. Since then he has featured only in 17 T20Is for his national side. He averages at 31.56.

His place in the T20I looks vunerable. He has not represented for his side in T20I since last T20 World Cup. By looking his stats in T20I cricket it is very hard to say that he will be making comeback in this format once again.
