Whenever there is a talk about Indian wicketkeeper batsman, the first name to come out is none other than Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He has untouchable legacy as compared to any other Indian wicketkeeper batsmen.
Without any disrespect to MSD, one has to admit the fact that Dhoni as a test batsman is nowhere close to Dhoni in limited overs. Dhoni is undoubtedly one of the greatest finishers in limited overs cricket. However, Dhoni hasn't had any overseas hundred in his 10 years of test career. On the contrary, Rishabh Pant already has 4 overseas test hundred (2 in England, 1 in South Africa, 1 in Australia) to his name in his short span of career. We already have witnessed Pant playing some remarkable innings for the team in crucial situations.
As far as my personal opinions are concerned, yes Pant is the India's best wicketkeeper batsman in test cricket.
There have been situations when a lot of questions were risen over Pant's approach early in his test career. But, he answered all those questions with his bat by scoring runs everywhere he played, saving the team quite a few times from collapse in his pretty young career.
Rishabh Pant has scored 2123 runs from 31 tests with the average of 43.3 and strike rate of 72.66 with 5 Hundreds.
Rishabh Pant hold the record for most test runs by visiting wicketkeeper in England. He also became the first Indian wicketkeeper batsman after Farokh Engineer to score a century and a fifty in a test match for India.
What do you think, is the Pant India's best wicketkeeper batsman in test cricket ?
