Ireland has easily defeated the two-time champion West Indies by 9 wickets and entered the Super-12 stage of the Twenty20 World Cup. West Indies are out of the tournament due to the defeat. Chasing 147 runs for victory, Ireland scored 150 runs after losing one wicket in 17.3 overs.

Opening batsman Paul Stirling was the hero of Ireland's victory. He scored 66 runs off 48 balls and remained not out. It included 6 fours and 2 sixes. He shared a solid partnership of 73 runs with Andy Balbrini for the first wicket. Balbrini scored 37 runs.

Similarly, Lorcan Toker remained not out and scored 45 runs in 35 balls. He hit two fours and two sixes. West Indies, who won the toss and decided to bat first, scored 146 runs for five wickets. Brendan King scored 62 off 48 balls and this was the team's highest individual score.

He hit 6 fours and 1 six. For Ireland, Gerath Delaney took three wickets for 16 runs and he was the 'player of the match'. In today's second and final match of the preliminary round, Zimbabwe and Scotland are facing each other. The winning team will be the fourth and last team to reach Super-12.
