India U19 thrashed Australia U19 by 8 wickets in the final of ICC Under-19 World Cup at Mount Maunganui on Saturday.Chasing 217, India wrapped up the win inside 39 overs with Manjot Kalra scoring a sensational unbeaten century and was named Man of the Match.
In slightly overcast conditions, Australia won the toss and opted to bat but found themselves 59-3, as seamer Porel dismissed openers Jack Edwards (28) and Max Bryant (14) before Nagarkoti had captain Jason Sangha (13) caught behind.Jonathan Merlo was the top scorer for Australia with 76 runs from 102 balls.From 212 for 7, Australia were bundled out for 216 in the first innings.
Rain came about just after India's chase had begun but didn't last long enough for there to be overs reduction. An opening stand of 71 runs between Prithvi Shaw andManjot Kalra set up the chase for Indian team. Skipper Prithvi Shaw was out for 29 runs while Manjot Karla scored an unbeaten century to take his team to victory.
Kalra became only the second Indian batsman after Unmukt Chand to score a century in the Under-19 World Cup final, powering India to become the only side to be crowned champions four times.
