India survive late scare, beat Ireland by 4 runs

India defeat Ireland by 4 runs in a thrilling match to seal the series 2-0. Despite Ireland's excellent performance, they could not avoid a clean sweep in the series.

Chasing a target of 226 for victory, Ireland finished on 221/5 from their allotted 20 overs. Ireland needed 17 runs in the last six balls to win. Umran Malik conceeded 12 runs from the last over to secure a victory for the visiting side.

Umran bowled a dot ball to Mark Adair in the first ball of the last over. The second ball was a no ball. Adair smashed two consecutive fours to make the equation 8 required off 3 balls. The fourth and fifth ball yielded 2 runs. With 6 runs required off the last ball, Adair could manage just a single as India won by 4 runs.

Captain Andy Balbirnie smashed 60 runs off 37 balls with 3 fours and 7 sixes. Paul Sterling was dismissed for 40 off 18 balls with five fours and three sixes. Stirling and Balbirnie put on a 72 run stand for the first wicket from just 5.4 overs.

Impressive young batsman Harry Tector was dismissed for 39 off 28 balls with five fours. George Dokrel remained unbeaten on 34 off 16 balls with three fours and three sixes. Mark Adair remained unbeaten on 23 off 12 balls with three fours and one six. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Ravi Bishnoi and Umran Malik shared a wicket each for India.

Earlier, India won the toss and elected to bat first. They lost seven wickets in the allotted 20 overs to score 225 runs.

Deepak Hooda completed his century to finish with 104 runs off 57 balls incuding nine fours and six sixes. This is Hooda's first international century. Hooda is the fourth Indian T20I player to score a century after Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul.

Sanju Samson was dismissed for 77 off 42 balls with nine fours and four sixes off Mark Adair. Samson and Hooda added 176 runs for the second wicket and helped India post a challenging total on the board.

Surya Kumar Yadav scored 15 runs while Dinesh Karthik, Harshal Patel and Axar Patel could not even open their account. Hardik remained unbeaten on 15 off 9 balls with two fours. Ireland's Mark Adair took 3 wickets for 44 runs in 4 overs.

India won the first match of the series by 7 wickets. Deepak Hooda was named Player of the Match as well as Player of the Series.
