After being detained, the former Manchester United winger, 48, stood down from his position in November 2020.Giggs was later charged with abusing his ex-girlfriend and using controlling behavior, both of which he denies.

Giggs is set to be trialed in January and appeared at Manchester Crown Court on Friday afternoon to plea not guilty. In November of last year, he was accused of headbutting Greville while drunk. In the same occasion, he is accused of assaulting her sister, Emma, at his home in Manchester.

"It has been an honor and a privilege to manage my country, but it is only right that the Wales FA, the coaching staff and the players prepare for the tournament with certainty, clarification and without speculation around the position of their head coach," Giggs said in a statement.

He stated that he aims to resume his managerial career at a later date".

In Giggs' absence, Robert Page took over as temporary Wales manager, taking the team to their first World Cup finals since 1958.
