The qualifiers for the ICC Men's Cricket Worldcup will take place from June 18th,2023 to July 9th 2023 in Zimbabwe. It is the 12th edition of the Cricket Worldcup Qualifiers and is the culmination process for the Cricket Worldcup 2023 Qualifications.
With ten teams competing to get two spots in the grand stage of the Worldcup 2023, the qualifiers will be engaging to say the least.
The tournament features ten teams. The bottom five teams from the 2020-2023 Worldcup Super League, The top three teams from 2019-2023 League 2 and two teams from Worldcup Qualifiers Playoff.
The ten teams are further divided into two groups.
Group A
- Zimbabwe (Hosts)
- West Indies
- Netherlands
- Nepal
- USA
Group B
- Srilanka
- Oman
- Ireland
- Scotland
- UAE
The group A looks really packed with the hosts, Zimbabwe leading the charge. Alongside Zimbabwe, an experienced West Indies side will have something to prove and qualify for the Worldcup 2023. Nepal on the other hand is a young team with great potential, but with the potential absence of their starman Sandeep Lamichhane, the Nepali team might struggle against the big names of the group.
The Group B on the other hand seems like a walk in the park for the Sri Lankan side. With quality players like Hasaranga in their team if they dont qualify as firsts of the group, it will be dissapointing. Scotland and UAE will be looking for a place in the Super Six. UAE's strong point is their batting but they struggle in the bowling aspect a lot, however Scotland has a good mixture of both bowlers and batsmen who can capitalize and bring an upset in the group.
Each team from a group will play against each other and the top three teams of both the groups will be qualifing for the SUPER SIX, and in the SUPER SIX they will be facing against each other.
All the points won in the Group Stage will be carried to the Super Six, except the points that have been gained from the teams that were eliminated in the Group Stage itself.
The decision review system (DRS) will be used for the first time in the qualifiers, but will be used from the knockout stages.
Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo Athletic Club, Harare Sports Club and Takashinga Sports Club will be hosting all the 34 games of the tournament, with Harare Sports Club hosting the final on 9th of July, 2023.
The finalists of the tournament will have a place in the ICC MEN'S CRICKET WORLDCUP 2023 which will be hosted in India.
