England starts CT with a win over Bangladesh

England successfully chased down a target of 306 against Bangladesh in the first game of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. Joe Root completed his 10th ODI century to guide his team to a victory at the Oval.

Earlier, England won the toss and elected to field first. Bangladesh posted a total of 305 with opener Tamim Iqbal scoring 128 runs off 142 balls. Musffiqur Rahim scored 79 runs for Bangladesh while Soumya Sarkar contrinuted 28 runs. Liam Plunkett finished with the figure of 4-59 for England while Ben Stokes and Jake Ball took a wicket each.

England in reply lost Jason Roy early but then a159 run partnership between Joe Root and Alex Hales made sure England were in strong position. Alex Hales scored 95 runs before getting out toSabbir Rahman. Root remained notout on 133 runs while Morgan was unbeaten on 75 as England completed the run chasewith 16 balls and 8 wickets remaining.

Joe Root was named Man of the Match for his match winning knock with the bat.
