Cricket is a game of skills. The budding cricketers are always taught the basics of the game which includes techniques and approaches to be applied in the game of cricket.

Batting instance is one of the first steps of starting your cricketing journey. Cricket experts can have much idea about a batsman just at looking at their batting instance as well. No one can ignore the fact that a batsman skill and journey depends a lot on his batting instance.

Standing sideways, holding the bat tight, eyes on the ball till last moment, still head, straight shoulders are some of the basics we are taught when we start our cricketing journey as a batsman.

Here, in this article we are going to talk about some of the batsmen with unusual and weird batting instances :

Rory Burns

The Englishman is said to be blind in one eye with a very limited vision in the other. This is the main reason for his unusual batting instance.

If you look at his batting technique, he holds his bat in the air for longer time than a normal batsman would. This probably helps him to get ready for the unexpected short balls and adjust accordingly.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul

This is one of the most popular among all unusual batting stances. All of us who played some sort of gully cricket have tried this stance at least once.

Chanderpaul standed 90-degrees to the orthodox stance and then shift to normal position as the bowler bowled the ball. Although, his stance looked very weird to observer's eyes, he was very successful with this same approach.

He has over 11867 runs in test cricket while 8788 runs in ODIs to his name.

George Bailey

Former Australian cricketer, George Bailey is often seen experimenting with his batting stance. In a game against Pakistan, he was seen taking a weird batting position as he stood showing his back towards the bowler and himself facing towards the slip and wicketkeeper.

Steve Smith

Steve Smith is undoubtedly one of the best red-ball batsmen among currently active cricketers. The Australian stands with a high backlift and shuffles a lot while playing the ball.

Special Mentions

Apart from the above mentioned batsmen, Kevin Pietersen(England) and MS Dhoni (India) also deserve a special mention when it comes to weird or unusual batting stances.
