Can Hooda be the next Yuvraj for India ?
July 26, 2022 | Sabin Koirala 3.4K ReadsIndia won the 50 overs cricket world cup last time in 2011 which was held in India. The main factor which helped them to lift the cup was because of their top order batters' ability to bowl in the middle overs. India had the likes of Sachin, Sehwag, Kohli, Yuvraj and Raina who could actually bowl through the middle phase of an innings.
However, Sehwag didn't bowl a single delivery in that tournament. Collectively, Kohli, Raina, and Sachin bowled just 8 overs in the whole tournament and they were pretty economical. But the guy who impressed everyone with his all-round ability was Yuvraj Singh. He bowled as many as 75 overs throughout the tournament and also picked up 15 wickets ending up as India's second highest wicket taker in the tournament. He averaged 25.13 with the ball which was really impressive. He also scored 362 runs for his side with 4 half-centuries and a century at Chennai against West Indies in difficult conditions. He was named as "Man of the Tournament" for his all-round ability. He played a vital role in winning the World Cup for his side.
With the next 50 overs World Cup being held again in India, the Indian team are willing to win the tournament after choking several times in the previous editions. India has got the likes of Jadeja, Hardik and even Axar Patel. But, all these players bat down the order.
The recent top order batters of Indian team doesn't bowl. But, the team management surely understands the value of a top-order batter who can bowl a bit. Considering above mentioned facts, there is a player who could be the next Yuvraj for team India in coming World Cup. His name is Deepak Hooda. He is someone who bats up the order and also can chipp up with couple of overs to his side. He is someone who bats aggressively from ball one.
Deepak's ODI career till the date
He made his ODI debut for team India against West Indies couple of months ago in February. He scored a vital 26 runs and also remained not-out. In the very next game he scored a quick fire 29 from 25 deliveries and also picked up an important wicket of well set batter Shamarah Brooks. However, he was benched in the 3rd ODI. He has been performing really well in T20Is as well.
The team management should groom him in coming days and provide much more chances to him. However, he is in his early days and it is quiet early to compete him with Yuvraj Singh.
