Can Arsenal win the Premier League this season?
August 7, 2024 | Shashwot Adhikari 100 ReadsThe Premier League is just around the corner and I am really excited and ready for the twists and turns of the title race. As usual, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are the favourites to win it. With superstars like Kevin DeBruyne, Erling Haaland and the Euros winner Rodri in the team, nobody will have any problems with me stating that the Citizens are the favourites yet again. Haaland will be eyeing up the golden boot once more and with the creative forces in midfield to help him, you would not want to bet against the towering Norweigan.
However, Arsenal have been on the heels of Manchester City for a couple of years now and they will want to finally end their long wait for the Premier League title this season. They seem to be getting closer every time. They would love to break Manchester City's monopoly in the league. Still, Manchester City are a train that is hard to derail, even with the quality of Arsenal's squad.
Mikel Arteta has slowly but surely turned Arsenal into a mighty force that can go toe-to-toe against the best teams in the world. The team is well balanced with very little weakness in all aspects of the game.
Arsenal’s defence is brilliant led by French centre-back William Saliba, who had a brilliant season last time around. Partnered by the Brazillian Gabriel, and with the addition of Calafiori from Bologna, the defence looks stronger than ever.
Martin Odegaard oozes class in the midfield and his form will be crucial if Arsenal are to mount a serious challenge for the Premier League. With the support of players like Declan Rice, Gabriel Martinelli and their starman Bukayo Saka, I think Arsenal will be better than they were last season and will prove to be one of the favourites for the Premier League crown.
A world class striker seems to be the missing piece of the puzzle for Arsenal. Gabriel Jesus has been a huge disappointment ever since joining from Manchester City, showing little flashes here and there, but has been overly inconsistent. Kai Havertz was brilliant last season, but the German is not a proper number 9. He does the job, but Arsenal need a proper striker that will bang in 20 goals a season or thereabouts.
Ivan Toney stands out as a possible target for the Gunners. He is a proven Premier League striker and will be an excellent addition to the North London side if he decides to swap the colours of Brentford for the red of Arsenal. There have also been rumors linking Arsenal to Leroy Sane, which would add some more firepower to the Gunners’ attack.
The current squad is more than capable of challenging for the title, but a few new additions will rejuvenate the squad and this may ultimately prove to be the catalyst that will propel them and help them become the champions of England. With a young and talented squad with the brilliant management of Mikel Arteta, this might be the season that will end the Premier League trophy drought for Arsenal.
