Brendon McCullum Predicts Death Of International Cricket Due To T20 Leagues!
May 17, 2023 | Rishikesh Wadhwani 10K ReadsBrendon McCullum, the coach of the England Test Team, has raised concerns about the growing dominance of T20 leagues over International Cricket. McCullum predicts that players may start turning down playing for their countries due to the expansion of T20 leagues. He believes that cricket governing bodies need to take this matter seriously and find a way to keep international cricket relevant.
According to McCullum, "The momentum is shifting towards T20 leagues, and players are ready to leave international cricket. The money offered is huge. Cricket boards would be naive if they think cricketers would turn down the T20 leagues. Those days are over." He further stated that cricket boards should find a way to ensure that players come to play international fixtures for their respective countries.
"The governing bodies should ensure that players return to play international fixtures for their respective countries. They can't stop the players but need them for global matches as well." McCullum's comments remark the growing concern over the impact of T20 leagues on international cricket.
While T20 leagues have provided a platform for players to showcase their skills and earn big money, it is the reason that could lead to a decline in the quality of international cricket. It would be interesting to see how cricket governing bodies respond to this challenge, but it is clear that the issue of T20 leagues and their impact on international cricket is something that needs to be addressed sooner rather than later.
Players all around the world have also been keen to get a deal in the IPL as the league franchises monitor the players in every country to boost their talents. Some of the most famous T20 leagues around the world are Big Bash League (in Australia), Caribbean Premier League (in West Indian countries), and Pakistan Super League (in Pakistan).
Many players have come up through these leagues in the IPL and have established themselves as a force to reckon with, such as Afghan spinner Rashid Khan, West Indian all-rounder Andre Russell and more.
