Batting lets down Nepal again, lose to Namibia

With a shameful batting performance, Nepal lost to Namibia by 63 runs in the ICC World Cup League-2 triangular ODI series. With their second consecutive defeat against Namibia, Nepal has reached the sixth position in the points table.

Chasing a target of 200 runs for victory, Nepal was all out for 136 runs in 37.5 overs. Nepal's Dipendra Singh Airee scored 38 runs in 55 balls including 3 fours.

Opener Kushal Bhurtel was caught by Ruben Trumpelmann for a duck on the fourth ball of fast bowler Jan Frylinck's first over. On the third ball of Frylinck's fifth over, Dev Khanal was caught at deep midwicket by Ben Sikongo for 1 run.

In the beginning, the umpire gave a six to Dev. But after asking Namibian fielder, Dev was declared out. However, It looked like the fielder had touched the boundary.

Aasif Sheikh was caught for 34 runs by skipper Gerhard Erasmus at deep extra cover off the second ball of the 14th over by spinner Bernard Scholtz. He hit 6 fours in 32 balls. Rohit was dismissed for 17 runs in the fourth ball of Bernard's 19th over. Rohit played 50 balls. Rohit also didn't look satisfied with the umpire's decision.

Nepal reached 82-5 in 23.1 overs and Dipendra and Aadil Ansari shared 36 runs and tried to bring Nepal back in the game. But Aadil was caught out by JJ Smit for 20 runs while looking for a big shot. Aadil hit 2 fours and 1 six in 30 balls. Nepal's victory became difficult after Dipendra was run out in the fifth ball of the 35th over in an attempt to take two runs.

While Pawan Saraf remained unbeaten on 10 runs, Sompal Kami 1, Basir Ahmed and Sandeep Lamichhane got out for duck. Namibian spinner Bernard Scholtz took 5 wickets for 22 runs with 2 maidens in 9.5 overs. Jan Frinlik took 2 wickets with 2 maidens in 10 overs for 26 runs.

Earlier, Namibia won the toss and started batting first and were all out for 199 runs in 49.2 overs. Namibian captain Jehard Erasmus scored 53 runs off 70 balls with 4 fours and 1 six. Despite a poor start, Erasmus and Jan Nicol Lofty Eaton put on a partnership of 68 runs for the fourth wicket to bring Namibia back into the game.

Sandeep Lamichhane bowled Craig Williams for 5, Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton for 19 and Jan Frylinck for 3 runs, and captain Gerhard Erasmus was stumped by wicketkeeper Aasif Shaikh for 53 runs. Erasmus played 70 balls and hit 4 fours and 1 six.

Sompal Kami dismissed both the openers. Sompal bowled Lo-handre Louwrens for 2 and Divan la Cock for 27 runs. Cock played 30 balls and hit 5 fours. Sompal spent only 33 runs in 10 overs. Wiese shared an important partnership of 43 runs with Trumpelmann for the eighth wicket before being runout.

Nepal's captain Sandeep Lamichhane took 4 wickets with 2 maidens in 10 overs at the expense of 29 runs. Sompal Kami took 2 wickets for 33 runs in 10 overs. Dipendrasingh Airi took 2 wickets with 9 runs in 3.2 overs. Basir Ahmed took 1 wicket with 49 runs in 9 overs.

Nepal lost the first match against Namibia by 40 runs. Scotland was defeated by 5 wickets. The last match will be played against Scotland on Sunday. Nepal has dropped to sixth place with 17 points from 19 matches with 10 losses and 8 wins. Namibia is in fifth place with 18 points from 18 matches with 9 wins and 9 losses.
