India announce squad for Champions Trophy 2017

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a 15 men squad for the Champions Trophy scheduled to start from 1st of June in England and Wales. Rohit Sharma and Mohammad Shami make a comeback after injury while young Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik in standby along with left handed Suresh Raina.

India had missed the squad announcement deadline of April 25 due to revenue sharing issues with the International Cricket Council (ICC).There were speculations that India might pull out of the tournament but on Sunday (May 7), at the Special General Meeting (SGM), BCCI took a decision to send the team to Champions Trophy.

The 15-member squad will be led by Virat Kohli while no new faces have been included in the team. Rohit, after recovering from a thigh injury he sustained during the Test series against England last year, has replaced opener KL Rahul, who has been sidelined due toa shoulder injury.

Rishabh Pant, Suresh Raina, Kuldeep Yadav, Shardul Thakur and Dinesh Karthik were the stand-by players for the tournament and will train at National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

India, the defending champions, are in Group B with Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka.
