Fabian Allen is a left-arm spinner and power-hitter in the lower order who, like so many modern West Indian players, has plied his trade in T20 franchise leagues across the world.
Allen counted himself lucky to have a cricket career at all, after nearly losing his arm in a car accident in 2016. He made his first-class debut for Jamaica at the age of 21 in November that year, but soon the white-ball formats became his specialty. After making his T20 and List A debuts in the next two years, Allen earned his ODI and T20I caps for West Indies on the tour of India in 2018.
For four years, Allen was a fairly regular part of the West Indies white-ball set up but then he took a break from cricket in early 2022, and even declined a retainer with Cricket West Indies because of personal reasons. He revealed that he had lost his father to cancer, and made himself available for selection only six months later, in August 2022.
Allen did not have many opportunities to represent West Indies after that, playing only in a T20I series against South Africa in May 2024, when most of the first-choice players were taking part in the IPL. In the meantime, though, he took part in T20 leagues in the Caribbean, UAE, South Africa, Canada, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
