Brian Bennett player profile
A naturally aggressive top-order striker and a decent offspinner, Brian Bennett's ascent to the senior Zimbabwe squad has been swift. He had a successful Under-19 World Cup in early 2022 finishing as Zimbabwe's top run-getter with 273 runs in six matches at an average of 45.50. It took Bennett just ten months to make his first-class debut for Mountaineers coming in as a concussion substitute for Spencer Magodo.
Soon after in February 2023, he made his T20 debut where he scored 41 off 22 balls and within ten months, he had earned his senior T20I cap against Ireland. He recorded his maiden international half-century - 70 off 49 balls - in the fifth T20I against Bangladesh in May 2024 helping Zimbabwe score their only win of the series.
Bennett scored his maiden first-class century in just his fifth game, but it was his unbeaten 264 against Eagles in February 2024 that brought him into the spotlight. He smashed 33 fours and three sixes in his 259-ball knock helping Mountaineers rack up 631 for 7 in just 108 overs. Bennett earned his maiden Test call-up for a one-off Test against Ireland in July 2024.
Bennett also has a twin brother David, who too was part of the Zimbabwe Under-19 World Cup squad, in 2022.
